I never will forget it, and nor, I'm sure, will you -
The day the skies grew silent, the day no airplanes flew.
We'll question it forever...why did so many die
On the day the skies grew silent and the airplanes ceased to fly?
There never was a darker day in all of history,
And why such hate should touch us all is still a mystery.
But the day the skies grew silent and the planes made not a sound
Was the day we finally thought to get our feet back on the ground.
We've separated church and state in the land our fathers trod,
But the day the skies grew silent was the day we turned to God.
In the land where God has blessed us more than anyone can say,
On the day the skies grew silent...America learned to pray.
We saw evil at its worst and how the human heart is flawed,
But the day the skies grew silent we came face to face with God.
In a nation filled with plenty, in a land so truly blessed,
We'd forgotten our beginnings, lost our peace and failed the test.
We had all but lost our freedom in our search for what is "just",
But the day the skies grew silent, we recalled "In God We Trust".
